Many years ago, I read an article about a family breaking down in a remote area up in the mountains. It was literally freezing outside and without heat in their car and very little else to sustain them, the dad set out on foot to find help. The mom and their two young children huddled together in their car for warmth.
It’s not a happy ending, which is why I remember it.
That poor family taught me a lesson, though: hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Winter driving brings many treacherous conditions, exacerbating by location and other drivers. That’s why it’s absolutely imperative to be prepared for anything and keep a road-side safety kit in your vehicle. A safety kid is a must in any weather, but there are special precautions to take in the cold months. Be safe!
